There is a moment at the end of a long helicopter chase when a wild horse realizes they are trapped. In those panicked seconds, one mustang at the Twin Peaks roundup in California made a desperate attempt to escape.

Unfortunately, the mustang's back legs caught on the fencing, causing him to land on his neck-narrowly missing a federal contractor. We do not know the extent of the horse's injuries.

Incidents like this are becoming all too common. Two weeks ago, nine recently captured mustangs were documented tumbling from a moving transport trailer.

The Twin Peaks roundup concluded on Oct. 11th. 960 wild horses, including 172 foals, have been captured, with four confirmed deaths. Just this summer, 7,729 wild horses and burros have been rounded up, with a staggering 96 lives lost. Since the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Fiscal Year 2024 roundup season began last September, 16,239 wild horses and burros have been captured, with over 200 innocent animals losing their lives -

including vulnerable young foals who have just entered the world. These numbers reflect the dire toll this year's roundup season has taken. #StopTheRoundups
